Clara Tauson delivered a comeback of huge proportions in the WTA tournament in Washington, when she battled back to beat the world No 57, Catherine Dolehide 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a match that lasted more than three hours

Thanks to her ranking as NO 19 in the world, Tauson had a bye in the first round and now she is set for the quarter-finals of the tournament, which is played on hard-court surface.

During the match Tauson showed great mental strength and excellent tennis.

In the first set, Tauson broke the American's serve early on, but the Dane was broken back immediately.

Dolehide then broke again soon after to take a 3-1 lead, and the American held on to that lead.

Tauson had the chance to break back, but Dolehide was able to fend off several break points.

Dolehide ten missed a set point on Tauson's serve before taking the first set comfortably in her own serve.

In the second set, Tauson turned the momentum, and she got off to a good start leading 3-0 and later 4-1.

But Dolehide fought back at 4-4 and also 5-5. But from then on Tauson composed herself to grab the last two games and win the set.

Tauson repeated the feat from the second set and also took a 3-0 lead in the third set. However, Dolehide had no intentions of throwing in the towel and quickly leveled the score at 3-3.

The two players then took turns to create opportunities for breaking serve without exploiting them until the score was 4-4.

Tauson then edged ahead 5-4 and converted her third third match point in Dolehide's serve to complete the comeback after three hours and 11 minutes.

In the quarter-finals, Tauson will face the Russian Anna Kalinskaya.
