Mamdani, who has been in office since January, secured the deal after negotiations with FIFA president Gianni Infantino as well as a FaceTime call with Arsene Wenger, the former manager of Arsenal, as reported by The Athletic.
The 1,000 tickets include five group games as well as two knockout games, but they are not available for the final on July 19th.
In a video posted to X, Mamdani said: "Last year, we said we would fight for cheaper tickets for New Yorkers, and today, just like Arsenal - we got it done."
The ballot to enter the draw for locals opens on May 25th, with winners notified on June 3rd.
During a press conference to announce the deal, USMNT star Timothy Weah added: "I think the mayor has done an amazing job to make these tickets available to New Yorkers, and my job is to bring joy, to put smiles on faces, and I'm going to do exactly that."
The MetLife Stadium, where these tickets will be used, is set to host seven games at this year's World Cup, where fans will see the likes of Brazil, Morocco, England and Germany in person.
