Danish National team head coach Brian Riemer announced a 24-man squad on Tuesday for the upcoming four Nations League matches. Midfielders Mads Bidstrup and Thomas Jorgensen were among the names selected following strong performances in French football.
"Bidstrup went through a difficult period in Salzburg last season. He made a move to Lyon, and I’ve been following him very closely. He has become a key figure for a very strong Lyon side. I’ve been down there to watch him myself, and he’s a real engine. He’s excellent at winning the ball back," says Riemer.
Thomas Jorgensen also received praise from the head coach, who is impressed by the midfielder's move from Viborg FF to Toulouse. "Thomas really impressed during national team training in June. When his move was announced, I thought he might need some time to settle in. I’ve watched all his matches, and he has taken the league by storm. He has been an incredibly important player for Toulouse," says Riemer.
Attacking midfielder Albert Gronbaek has also made the squad after playing regularly for German club Hamburger SV at the start of this season.
Additionally, center-back Victor Nelsson has been selected, despite having played only two matches for FC Nordsjaelland this season. Riemer has also selected Benfica full-back Alexander Bah, hoping he can shake off his injury before the international matches.
The same applies to midfielder Victor Froholdt, who suffered a concussion during a match for Porto in early September.
As expected, Christian Eriksen is not included in the squad. The Dane's footballing future remains uncertain after he collapsed on the pitch during the second half of the international match against Ukraine on 7 June. The 34-year-old Eriksen is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Denmark.
Denmark is set to face Norway in Oslo on 24 September. Three days later, Denmark will play Wales at home.
