Mika Biereth never had any doubts that he wanted to play for Denmark even though he also had the chance to play for Bosnia, England and Germany.

After scoring no less than ten goals in eight matches in the French Ligue 1 for AS Monaco, the 22-year old striker was an obvious choice when Brian Riemer on Tuesday announced his squad for the upcming Nations League matches against Portugal

"It's a pround moment for me to be selected for the senior national team and something that I have worked hard for for a long time. I really can't wait", said Biereth to TV2 Sport after the announcement.

Biereth, who was signed by Monaco for €13m from Sturm Graz in January, has played five matches for the Danish Under-19 national team and six matches for the Under-21's but that does not necessarily mean that he was going to line up for Denmark against Portugal as he still had the luxury of being able to choose between four different nations as he has never played a match at A-international senior level.

Born in London in 2003 to a Danish-German father and a Bosnian mother meant that he was in fact also eligible to play for Bosnia, Germany, and England. Biereth also reveals that he has been in contract with the national team coaches of all four nations.

"It has been important to be respectful towards the other countries, but for me it has not been a very difficult decision, but it has been a bit of a process. Now the process is over and I've actually made up my mind, but in reality it wasn't a difficult decision", he says.

"It is a unique situation when you have the opportunity to play for four different countries but there was only one opportunity I really wanted to explore, and that was Denmark", says Biereth.

Denmark faces Portugal in the Nations League on 20 and 23 March.
