It was the fifth time this season, the two teams, who are known for delivering drama, faced each other after Brondby won the latest contest 4-3 on aggregate in the quarter-final of the Danish cup tournament.
Brøndby had to do without both Jacob Rasmussen and Frederik Alves in central defence, with Rasmus Lauritsen getting a rare chance to shine. For AGF, Kristian Arnstad replaced Frederik Brandhof.
In the opening minutes of the match, AGF took the initiative, and Gift Links had the first attempt when he tested Patrick Pentz from the distance, but Pentz saved without any problems.
However, Brondby were more clinical in the other end after 13 minutes, when Noah Nertey cleverly flicked the ball on for the onrushing Nicolai Vallas, who volleyed the ball past AGF-keeper Jesper Hansen.
Brondby unusually allowed the visitors plenty of space in midfield, but AGF struggled to create any clear-cut chances against a well-organized Brondby rearguard.
Five minutes after the interval, the home side again took advantage of AGF's failure to clear the ball properly and via Yuito Suzuki's defflected delivery Mathias Kvistgaarden doubled the lead with a close-range header.
15 minutes before the end, the visitors were thrown a lifeline, when Patrick Mortensen cut the deficit, when poor marking allowed Mads Emil Madsen time and space in the Brondby box, but AGF never got closer and thanks to the win Brondby are now tied with AGF in third place both on 39 points.
