Kasper Schmeichel is under increasing fire at Celtic after a string of poor performances from the Danish international keeper has seen Wilfried Nancy's outfit lose ground on their closest rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

The Danish international has struggled to find top form this season, which has raised questions over his place in the Celtic team.

He has failed to regain his old form since injuring his shoulder on duty with Denmark in April. Schmeichel was heavily blamed when Jonah Ayunga headed St Mirren in front in the Premier Sports Cup final in December, and his attempt to keep out Zac Sapsford’s winner for Dundee United in the league a couple of days later raised eyebrows.

In addition to that, Sky Sports expert Chris Sutton said that Schmeichel had a shocker against Rangers on Sunday afternoon when Celtic lost the Old Firm derby 3-1.

When Mikey Moore made it 3-1 for the visitors on Sundays, pundits Neil McCann and Sutton believed Schmeichel could and should've done better.

"That man for me there makes a big error," said McCann. "I think he should save it." Sutton then went on to say: "Mikey Moore, not been in the game. I think you're right, Neil. Kasper Schmeichel has had a shocker there."

And that was apparently the last straw for a large number of Celtic fans in attendance, who for the remaining 20 minutes of the match whistled and booed the Danish goalkeeper every time he had the ball.

"Schmeichel looks out of shape to me. He's been poor all season. The third goal was disgraceful", said Sutton in a further comment.

The Danish international goalkeeper, who has also been heavily criticized in the Danish media for his questionable performances in the World Cup qualifying campaign, will get a chance to redeem himself for Celtic when the Scottish champions face Dundee United at home on Saturday.
