Saturday's game at Molineux between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur is an absolute must-win for the visitors.

With the hosts already having had their relegation to the Championship confirmed, they can play with a sense of freedom and without pressure.

Spurs could equal worst-ever winless run

The Lilywhites, on the other hand, need a victory and for West Ham to fail to beat Everton at the London Stadium, in order for them to move out of the bottom three.

Roberto De Zerbi's side remains the only Premier League outfit not to have a top-flight win in 2026, and if they fail to get all three points on Saturday, they'll have equalled their all-time winless run of 16 matches, which came almost 100 years ago between 1934 and 1935.

Spurs have lost their last three away games at Wolves - as many as they'd lost in the previous 16 trips - so clearly there would be no better time to break that duck.

Rob Edwards' side are actually unbeaten against Tottenham in the last six fixtures (W4, D2), dating back to August 2022, and those victories are only one fewer than the number of Wolves wins in the first 17 EPL meetings between the sides (W4, D3, L9).

All square last time out

The last time the teams met, in September, it took a Joao Palhinha goal in the 94th minute to stop the visitors from taking all three points from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after Santiago Bueno had opened the scoring for Wolves in the 54th minute.

Edwards lost both of his games against Spurs when he was the manager of Luton Town in the 2023/24 campaign, though his biggest win that season was a 4-0 against Brighton... managed by De Zerbi.

The one saving grace that the North Londoners have is that their opponents have already lost 22 games this season.

That's just one less than 23 in 1905/06 and 2011/12, and three less than the 25 defeats in 1964/65 and 1983/84.

To give some perspective on the current malaise that both clubs find themselves in, they are the two teams with the fewest Premier League points over the past two seasons (Wolves 59, Spurs 69) for those teams ever-present in the division during that time.

Just three home wins for Wolves in 2025/26

Further, Wolves' 42 defeats are the most of any side in that time, with Tottenham's 38 defeats the second-worst record.

The hosts have also failed to score in 17 games this season, and lost the last two: 4-0 vs West Ham and 3-0 vs Leeds. They've not had three defeats in a row by a margin of at least three goals since 2014.

In 16 Premier League home matches in 2025/26, Wolves have only won three, drawn three more and lost 10; however, they are unbeaten at Molineux in the top-flight since February 18th.

Tottenham are on a seven-game winless streak away from home, and haven't won all three points on the road since their game last December against Crystal Palace.

Richarlison the go-to guy for Tottenham

Clearly, then, the first goal of the game is vital, and Tottenham had won seven out of eight at the start of the season when opening the scoring.

In the last five matches when they've done so, however, they've drawn twice and lost three times, conceding 11 goals in the process.

Richarlison remains their go-to guy for goals, with the Brazilian having managed nine this season. For Wolves, the goals have been spread around, as Tolu Arokodare and Rodrigo Gomes have top-scored with three, followed by Mateus Mane's two.

The real issue for De Zerbi at this point is whether he can adopt a style of play that will see his side grind out the results they need to avoid the drop, or if his exciting, some might say gung-ho, way of attacking is the best form of defence.

With away games to come for the Lilywhites at Aston Villa and Chelsea, as well as home games against Leeds and Everton, Spurs' brief is crystal clear.

Simple message from De Zerbi

Win more points than West Ham. It's that simple. There's certainly no need for De Zerbi to complicate that message with so little time left in the season.

Captain, Cristian Romero, is out, and he's joined on the sidelines by Mo Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Guglielmo Vicario and Wilson Odobert.

Not the best preparation for the fixture, but an injury list that's a damn sight better than it was a few weeks ago.

For their part, Wolves could be without seven players, as Yerson Mosquera, Sam Johnstone and Enso Medina are definitely out, and Jose Sa, Ladislav Krejci, Angel Gomes and Matt Doherty will all face late fitness tests.
