Nuno Espirito Santo is facing a crunch week in his battle to remain as West Ham United boss.

We revealed last week on Flashscore that the future of the head coach would be plunged into uncertainty should the Hammers lose to Wolves at the weekend - and that warning has now materialised in emphatic fashion.

West Ham were swept aside 3-0 by the Premier League’s bottom club, as Wolves claimed their first league win of the season in a damaging result for both morale and momentum.

In the aftermath, it is being reported that Tuesday night’s fixture against Nottingham Forest will play a significant role in determining whether Nuno survives.

It is a valid case but our sources close to the situation also suggest the decision is far more complex than a simple win-or-lose equation.

West Ham have recently sanctioned signings tailored towards Nuno’s style of football, designed to support his tactical approach and give him the tools to succeed.

Any change now would carry significant implications. There is concern within the club that a successor such as Slaven Bilic would demand a different player profile, forcing West Ham into another shift in recruitment strategy.

As a result, the board are wary of acting too recklessly.

The performance against Wolves only heightened the alarm bells, though.

West Ham failed to register a single shot on target in the 3-0 defeat and now sit four points adrift in the relegation zone.

It is a deeply concerning position, especially with Nuno next facing another of his former clubs in Nottingham Forest.

Should he survive that test, further challenges lie ahead. An FA Cup tie against QPR and a London derby away at Tottenham Hotspur are next on the calendar - fixtures that will continue to test both West Ham’s resolve and their manager’s grip on the job.
