Liverpool have confirmed that defender Ibrahima Konate will leave the club as a free agent.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for Liverpool since joining from RB Leipzig back in 2021, making 183 appearances and starring in their 2024-25 Premier League winning campaign.

Liverpool have now confirmed that Konate will leave the club as a free agent once his contract expires at the end of the season, however.

In April, the defender hinted that he would like to remain at Anfield and was close to signing a new deal.

“My future? There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement,” he said.

“I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible but we are in a good way.

“There is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted. I’m waiting to sort the contract but when everything is sorted you will have to ask Richard (Hughes) what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.”

Real Madrid are said to be interested in pulling off a similar deal to the one that brought Trent Alexander-Arnold to the club last season.
