Feyenoord and Fortuna were set to play in round 3 of the Dutch Eredivisie, but had their match rescheduled ahead of time to give Feyenoord more rest ahead of an anticipated Champions League qualifier. Feyenoord did not make the Champions League play-off round, resulting in a plain weekend off for both sides.
Manager Robin van Persie changed his side in three places. The suspended Anis Hadj Moussa was replaced by Jaden Slory, who made his full debut for the Rotterdam outfit. Oussama Targhalline replaced Luciano Valente in midfield, while Jordan Bos returned to the starting line-up at left-back.
The first half saw Feyenoord scarcely create chances, but still come out on top when Ayase Ueda scored his fifth Eredivisie goal of the season in the 40th minute.
Feyenoord were allowed more space in the second half by Fortuna, but failed to double the lead for the longest time after misses from the likes of Steijn and Bos.
Van Persie brought three new names on after 62 minutes, taking off captain Sem Steijn as well, and saw the changes lead to Feyenoord's 2-0 ten minutes later, when Aymen Sliti coolly finished off a counter.
Sliti, a Dutch under-19 international, extended his Feyenoord contract earlier this week and was permanently promoted to the first team, along with defender Jan Plug, who replaced Thargalline in the 89th minute.
Fortuna Sittard failed to aim a shot at Timon Wellenreuther's goal all game long and were dealt their second defeat of the season by Feyenoord, who took home a comfortable 2-0 win.
Feyenoord, who lead the Eredivisie with a perfect score of 15 points from five games, next face AZ in Alkmaar this Sunday. Fortuna Sittard host FC Utrecht on Saturday evening.
