Ahead of the first match in Malmo, Swedish Henrik Rydström spent a considerable amount of time discussing FC Copenhagen's significantly larger budget at the press conference.
The FC Copenhagen coach didn't understand much of that rhetoric, and he let the Danish press know that after Tuesday's humiliation in the Parken stadium.
"I must admit that when the opposing coach and players start talking about budget differences, the coach's salary, and the players' salaries, then I know we have won. And that confirms to me the big differences that exist between the two clubs."
"We have earned and worked hard for every penny of the money we have spent on class players, and that showed the class difference today. I've had a hard time understanding their approach, but it has obviously been their minimal chance of equalizing the differences."
"At least they'll get home safely, because they've inflated a lifeboat the size of a ferry that can sail between Helsingborg and Elsinore. Please let me know if I ever make excuses like that. Then just shut down the press conference."
Neestrup was subsequently asked if the Swedes' statements ahead of the matches had annoyed him.
"It hasn't irritated me. I've just laughed about it. Quietly. It hasn't irritated me at all. But you notice it, and it's a bit rude to sit and talk about us like that."
FC Copenhagen will now face FC Basel in the Playoff round for the Champions League while Malmo will attempt to qualify for the Europa League through a tie against Czech outfit Sigma Olomouc.
