Perhaps the biggest story is the elimination of Manchester City, who are a real cause for concern. They look to have run out of ideas and were overwhelmed by a Real Madrid side that made a big statement at the Bernabeu thanks to Kylian Mbappe's best night yet for Los Blancos.
Other surprises included Belgian side Club Brugge, who defeated Atalanta, while AC Milan were beaten by Feyenoord and Juventus were knocked out by PSV.

Goalkeeper
Simon Mignolet (Club Brugge) 8.7
According to our system, the top goalkeeper of the playoffs was Club Brugge's Simon Mignolet. He snatched one of the best average ratings of all players thanks to his stellar performances against Atalanta.
Mingolet was key for his side, who had already shown their quality with a fine display against Manchester City on the final day of the group phase.
Defence
Ryan Flamingo (PSV) 7.7
Young Dutch defender Ryan Flamingo scored the goal that sent PSV through to the last 16, dealing a major blow to Thiago Motta's Juventus in dramatic fashion.
Marquinhos (PSG) 7.9
Brazilian defender Marquinhos is a real leader for PSG. He has been a regular in the French side's back line for the past few years and will be hoping to take them to their first Champions League title.
Nuno Mendes (PSG) 8.3
Luis Enrique's PSG enjoyed their two games in the Champions League playoffs, thrashing Brest in both. In the second leg, played at the Parc des Princes, the Parisian side claimed an emphatic 7-0 win and Nuno Mendes scored one of the goals in the rout.
Midfield
Michael Olise (Bayern) 8.8
Bayern's sublime playmaker Michael Olise scored the first goal in the first leg of their playoff against Celtic.
It was a great round on the whole from the Frenchman, who picked up the highest average rating of any player and has become an important component of Vincent Kompany's side.
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern) 8.2
Sometimes a midfielder, sometimes a pivot, sometimes a full-back; Joshua Kimmich is one of the most complete and consistent players at Bayern and was crucial for them against Celtic in both matches.
Vitinha (PSG) 8.2
A win of such magnitude for PSG warrants having more than one player in the team of the round, and Vitinha is a classy player who is ever-present for the French champions.
Desire Doue (PSG) 8.2
Young playmaker Desire Doue was once again a standout for Luis Enrique's team. At just 19 years old, he dazzles with his dribbling, speed and finishing on the run. He is one of the great up-and-comers of French football.
Forwards
Chemsdine Talbi (Club Brugge) 8.4
Chemsdine Talbi's brace helped Club Brugge beat Atalanta in the second leg and book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. It was a great game from the striker, who was one of the round's top players.
Ousmane Dembele (PSG) 8.1
The resurrection of Ousmane Dembele is something that many fans had given up on and continues to astound.
Playing as a false nine, he is enjoying the season of his life at PSG and has become the focal point of Luis Enrique's attack.
Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) 8.5
It was the perfect round from Kylian Mbappe. First, he revived Real Madrid in the first leg at the Etihad and followed that up with a hat-trick at the Bernabeu.
Mbappe is a real winner and proved against City that he can be Los Blancos' main man.
