Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Real Madrid, the most successful club in the history of European football, will be present at the first new FIFA Club World Cup. The other Spanish place (as there are only two teams per country) was contested between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. Both finished last year's Champions League in the quarter-finals, but Atlético, with a six-point lead in the UEFA rankings, are the second Spanish team to qualify for the tournament.

Real Madrid's 2025 FIFA Club World Cup schedule, fixtures and opponents

Real Madrid's opponents in the group stage

Real Madrid have been drawn in Group H alongside Al Hilal, Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg.

Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia): The most successful team in Asia and reigning champions of the Saudi Arabian League. They have outstanding players such as Bono, Cancelo, Milinkovic-Savic and Mitrovic. They were Real Madrid's opponents in a previous Club World Cup final. They are the former team of Neymar Jr.

Pachuca (Mexico): Current CONCACAF Champions League 2024 champions. One of the most financially powerful teams in Mexico and boasts players such as former Sevilla player Idrissi, veteran Salomon Rondon and Argentinian Gustavo Cabral, formerly of Celta Vigo.

Red Bull Salzburg (Austria): Although they were not Austrian champions last season, they are known for their project to develop young talent. They have recently sold key players such as Pavlovic and Sucic, and brought in Clark from Liverpool. The Israeli Gloukh, striker Konaté and midfielder Kjaergard stand out in attack.

Real Madrid's possible line-up and call-up for the FIFA Club World Cup

This is the possible Real Madrid squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. It should be noted that all players who have been called up to the first team at some point this season are mentioned.

Goalkeepers

Thibaut Courtois, Andrii Lunin, Fran González and Sergio Mestre.

Defenders

Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, David Alaba, Lucas Vázquez, Jesús Vallejo, Fran García, Antonio Rüdiger, Ferland Mendy, Youssef Lekhedim, Jacobo Ramón, Raúl Asencio, David Jiménez, Lorenzo Aguado, Diego Aguado and Mario Rivas.

Midfielders

Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde, Luka Modric, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Dani Ceballos, Brahim Díaz, Chema Andrés and Hugo de Llanos.

Strikers

Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, Rodrygo, Endrick, Gonzalo García, Daniel Yáñez, Víctor Muñoz and Pol Fortuny.

Players to watch

Vinícius Júnior: With his outstanding career at Real Madrid, Vinícius Júnior remains one of the most exciting players in world football. The Brazilian has cemented his place as a key player in the Merengues' forward line, contributing goals and assists in the 2024/25 season, and demonstrating his ability to make the difference in key matches. Throughout his seven years at Real Madrid, he has been instrumental in keeping the team in the fight for titles and, evidently, lifting them: at 24, he has won fourteen titles, including two Champions League titles and three league titles.

Kylian Mbappé: After several years of chasing him, Real Madrid managed, in the 2024 summer transfer window, to secure the services of one of the most sought-after and followed players in the world of football. Kylian Mbappé landed better than ever, as in his first official match in the white shirt he scored against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup. After a difficult first few months and, as the press and the Madrid faithful were saying, a period of adaptation, the Frenchman managed to settle with the team and by mid-March he had scored 29 goals in 46 games. Not bad for his first season in one of, if not the most, demanding clubs in Europe.

Jude Bellingham: The Englishman's first season at Real Madrid was one of the top scorers of the 2023/24 season. It is true that his goalscoring figures have suffered a significant drop, also due to the naturalness of his position. Even so, the Stourbridge-born player has a remarkable 34 goals and 24 assists in 79 games.

All of them, as well as others like Rodrygo or Federico Valverde, essential in the team, or Raúl Asencio, a promise of La Fábrica made reality, will be fundamental for the team led by Carlo Ancelotti to lift their first Club World Cup with the new FIFA format.

Odds of winning: What are Los Blancos' chances of winning the FIFA Club World Cup?

Real Madrid are the overwhelming favourites to lift the Club World Cup title, with the odds on them to win at 4.50. Other big favourites include Manchester City (5.50), Bayern Munich (6.50), Chelsea (10.00), Inter Milan (11.00) and Paris Saint-Germain (13.00).

Odds, correct at the time of publication, are subject to change.

How did Real Madrid qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025?

Los Blancos qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup as champions of the 2022 Champions League. Recall that the qualification system for European clubs consisted of 12 places with four champions and eight places by UEFA ranking. With Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City confirmed as the latest UEFA Champions League champions, those who achieved their presence through the UEFA ranking were Bayern Munich, RB Salzburg, PSG, Inter Milan, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and Juventus.

Ultimately, Real Madrid secured their place automatically by lifting the most prestigious title in club football in 2022. However, the club presided over by Florentino Pérez would also have been able to qualify through the 2024 title.

Real Madrid kit for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Real Madrid have not yet presented a specific kit for this year's Club World Cup in the United States, but we should not rule out the possibility of seeing something new at a later date. Given the prestige that surrounds this year's event (and, of course, the immense financial opportunity it offers), it is likely that a high percentage of participating clubs will launch a specific kit for the occasion.

Real Madrid's FIFA Club World Cup history, highlights and statistics

To understand Real Madrid's history at the Club World Cup, we must contextualise the history of the competition and its relationship with the Intercontinental Cup. At the end of the 20th century, the Intercontinental Cup pitted the champions of South America and Europe against each other, i.e. the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the Champions League. Later, FIFA wanted to include Asia, Africa, Oceania and CONCACAF. It was then that it created the Club World Cup, which replaced the Intercontinental in 2004.

How many times has Real Madrid won the Club World Cup?

In total, Real Madrid have four Intercontinental Cups (24/25, 2002, 1998 and 1960) and five Club World Cups (22/23, 18/19, 17/18, 16/17 and 14/15). This latest edition of the Intercontinental Cup was the return of the competition, which was played in the knowledge of the change of format of the Club World Cup, which will be played every four years. Thus, the Intercontinental Cup will be played every year and the FIFA Club World Cup every four years.

Real Madrid is the club with the most titles in both the Club World Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, having lifted the trophy in a total of nine editions between the two competitions.

Only on two occasions did they fail to win the trophy. The first was in 1966, when they lost the final of the Intercontinental Cup to Penarol in a two-legged match (2-0 and 0-2). The second time was in 2000, when the Intercontinental Cup was still in progress, and the Spanish team lost 2-1 to Boca Juniors, thanks to a Martín Palermo brace.
