Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with left shoulder inflammation.

The move will effectively shut down Luzardo for the remainder of the regular season as the Phillies have 12 games left on their schedule.

Luzardo, 28, is coming off his first complete-game shutout of the season against the Atlanta Braves last Monday. He finished the game giving up just two hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts on 109 pitches.

He'll fall one win short (14) of tying his career high from last season (15). In the first All-Star season of his eight-year career, Luzardo put up a career-best 2.87 earned run average and 221 strikeouts (career high) through 178.2 innings.

Luzardo's 1.080 WHIP and 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings are both career highs.

Philadelphia currently hold the second National League Wild Card spot with an 83-67 record.
