Marco Rose’s return to Borussia-Park as RB Leipzig boss was a disastrous one as his side suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Die Fohlen. To compound Borussia’s joy, Daniel Farke’s men snapped a streak of two consecutive games without scoring.

With the recent hiring of Marco Rose, RB Leipzig had enjoyed a small new-manager bounce, but their momentum was cut short within ten minutes at Borussia-Park. The hosts pinned the Saxony club into their own half from the off, and were rewarded for their effort when a Péter Gulácsi save was parried right into the path of Jonas Hofmann, who pounced to lash the ball into the roof of the net, giving Mönchengladbach an early one goal advantage.

Hofmann stabbed home his and Gladbach’s second to cap off a blistering counter-attack in the final ten minutes of the first half, leaving Leipzig with a mountain climb in the second, but a steep mountain then became downright vertical within ten minutes of the restart. After a recycled ball, some disastrous marking from the Leipzig defenders left Ramy Bensebaini all alone in the six-yard box, with plenty of time to chest the ball down and poke home to put the hosts truly out of sight.

The visitors could well have walked away with a much heavier defeat, but for some pride-salvaging blocks at the back. After a superb performance in a 3-0 thrashing of league leaders Borussia Dortmund last time out, Die Roten Bullen will be bitterly disappointed to find themselves on the other side of that scoreline, with the result also representing a second straight Bundesliga away game without scoring.
