Speaking on German TV at the World Cup final, Klopp took a brief pause and then announced the next step on his path to becoming national team coach: "I have reached an agreement with Red Bull. A very generous one. There is nothing standing in the way."
That being said, nothing is official yet, with no final signature from the German Football Association (DFB), and Klopp took a little jab at all the media outlets rushing to break the news of an agreement.
"When the time comes, we can announce it ourselves and won't need others who are always too quick to jump the gun," Klopp said. To reassure everyone, he added: "It should actually happen in the next few days. Ideally."
There are fewer than 70 days until the first match after the disastrous World Cup, where Germany was eliminated in the round of 16 against Paraguay. The match will be played in Amsterdam against neighbours and rivals the Netherlands, in the Nations League
There is no longer any doubt that Klopp will be the one to lead his nation into that clash, and according to reports, he will sign a contract with the DFB until 2030 on Friday and will then be officially presented.
