Eklund, 19, was selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and had spent most of the year over in Sweden playing with Djurgardens IF, where he put up six goals and 18 assists in 43 games, before playing in seven games in the AHL, recording two goals and seven assists in seven games.
As for Horvat, it was also his 31st goal of the season, as the 31-year-old vet has reached at least 30 goals in four of the past six seasons now.
The Ontario native has been with the Islanders since they traded for him during the 2022-2023 season. He still has five years left on his massive contract, averaging $8.5 million each year before he becomes an unrestricted free agent after the 2030-2031 season.
