The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime at the hands of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid on Thursday night to take a 2-0 series lead.

Edmonton has now put up six straight comeback wins in the playoffs as McDavid and Draisaitl were the pair to score the game-winner in overtime to win 5-4

The two hadn't recorded a single goal or assist all night until it mattered the most.

1st Period

To nobody's surprise, the goal scoring didn't take long to start in Game 2.

After failing on the first power play, the Golden Knights succeeded shortly after on the next power play that followed the first one.

Victor Olofsson put Vegas on the board with the first goal of the game thanks to a combination of perfect passes during a power play, his first of the playoffs.

Both teams almost finished the stat sheet dead even, with six shots on goal each, six blocked shots each, five giveaways each, and 12 hits for Vegas to Edmonton's 10.

2nd Period

Jake Walman tied it up for the Oilers 1-1 with his first goal of the playoffs.

The goal came not too long after the Oilers killed the third Golden Knights' power play of the game, thanks to goaltender Calvin Pickard standing strong in net to give his team the chance to tie up.

Walman's teammate, Vasily Podkolzin, joins him as he also scored his first goal of the playoffs as the Oilers took a 2-1 lead with 4:42 left in the second period.

They say bad things come in threes - well, for the Knights, that seemed to be true as Darnell Nurse scored the Oilers' third straight goal to take a 3-1 lead during a 4-on-4 matchup two minutes after Podkolzin's goal.

But it didn't take long for Vegas to stay down.

With 1:51 to go in the second period, William Karlsson tipped one in to bring the deficit within a goal. Jack Eichel recorded his second assist of the game and his ninth of the playoffs, which now makes it the second-most of the playoffs behind McDavid's 11.

After a thrilling second period, the evenness on the stat sheet remains as the Oilers finished with 17 shots on goal to the Knights' 16, 18 hits to the Knights' 20, and also 14 blocked shots to the Knights' 12.

3rd Period

It only took two minutes for the score to change in the third period - this time from Edmonton's Evander Kane, his third of the playoffs, to put his team up 4-2.

Olofsson started the game with a power-play goal, and he scored another to bring the Knights within one to shorten the lead to 4-3 with just under five minutes left in the third period.

The goal came from a beautiful pass from Eichel, his third of the game and 10th of the playoffs.

Just when viewers thought the game couldn't get crazier, Alex Pietrangelo tied it up 4-4 for the Knights with eight minutes to go in the third period.

Olofsson recorded his third point of the night after earning a secondary assist on the goal.

Overtime

Overtime play was underway when Vegas' Nic Roy received a five-minute major and game misconduct penalty for cross-checking. But the Knights held strong as they held out for all five minutes despite being a man down.

But, the best duo in the league in McDavid and Leon Draisaitl had a 2-v-1, leaving it impossible for Adin Hill to stop it.

Conclusion

Edmonton finished with 38 shots on goal, 26 hits, 29 blocked shots, and went 0-3 on the power play.

Meanwhile, Vegas finished 32 shots on goal, 30 hits, 23 blocked shots, and went 2-4 on the power play.

Game 3 between the Oilers and Golden Knights will take place in Edmonton on Saturday, May 10th.
