NHL roundup: Kraken shine in the bright lights of New York City, Avs shutout the Devils

The Seattle Kraken headline today's slate of games after putting up seven goals during their road trip game to Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

The Seattle Kraken have now won three of their four games to start December after a 7-5 victory shootout against the New York Rangers. The Kraken scored five straight goals between the second and third periods, being led by Oliver Bjorkstrand (9) pair. 

Alexis Lafreniere (9) and K'Andre Miller (2) cut the lead to 6-5 in the third period for the Rangers, but Yanni Gourde (5) sealed the deal for the Kraken with an empty-netter. Rangers fall to 14-11-1 while the Kraken improve to 14-14-1. 

Lightning 4-2 Canucks

The Tampa Bay Lightning win their second straight after a 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Nikita Kucherov (13) led the team with three points (goal, two assists) to improve the Lightning's record to 14-9-2. 

Kiefer Sherwood (8) and Quinn Hughes (7) scored a pair of goals for Vancouver, but unfortunately wasn't enough as the team falls to 14-8-4.

Islanders 4-2 Senators

The New York Islanders have now won two straight games following their 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators. Anders Lee (12) and Kyle Palmieri (11) both scored on power plays for the Islanders while Kyle MacLean (2) and Bo Horvat (7, EN) scored the other two. 

The Senators fall to 12-13-1 on the season while the Islanders improve to 11-11-7. 

Around the league:

The Colorado Avalanche shut out the New Jersey Devils by a score of 4-0. The Avs have won two straight and improved to 16-13-0 on the season while the Devils are handed their first loss of December and fall to second in the Metro division with an 18-10-2 record.

The Utah Hockey Club scored two unanswered goals to take a 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers

The Dallas Stars improve to 17-10-0 after their 6-2 win over the Calgary Flames.
