Svane had hoped that intensive rehabilitation over the summer would avert the need for surgery. He tells "Midtjyllands Avis" that he fears his participation in the World Championship in January could be in jeopardy, as he will miss a national team training camp later in the autumn.
"It’s a minor procedure, so I’m optimistic, but the length of the layoff will depend on what they find when they open up the knee."
"The final training camp before a major tournament is important for the national team, so I would have liked to be part of it. That won't be happening now," he told the newspaper.
It was announced in June that Mads Svane will join Aalborg Håndbold in the summer of 2027. The agile playmaker also has a background with Mors-Thy.
Earlier this year, he was part of the Danish national team squad that won the European Championships. Svane saw action in two matches during the tournament and has a total of seven senior international caps to his name—all earned earlier this year.
