Aalborg has already secured advancement to the next stage of the Champions League. Thanks to Wednesday’s victory, Aalborg moved past Paris Saint-Germain in the group standings.
The final round of the group stage takes place next week, where Aalborg will face Paris Saint-Germain in a direct battle for the top spot.
Aalborg was once again without the injured trio of Sander Sagosen, Lukas Nilsson, and Niklas Landin—though in the case of the latter, his absence proved not to be a major setback.
Fabian Norsten demonstrated that he is a solid replacement, performing exceptionally well—especially early in the match. The Swede saved both penalty throws and clear-cut scoring opportunities, helping Aalborg build a comfortable lead.
Meanwhile, Celje committed error after error on the attack, allowing Aalborg’s fast-break specialists plenty of open space to run.
Aalborg remained in total control until the final stages of the first half, when their error rate increased and the Slovenians managed to narrow the gap slightly. Nevertheless, Aalborg went into the break with a respectable four-goal lead.
In the second half, Aalborg’s concentration wavered, and the flow of the game became somewhat disjointed. The Danish side attempted a few overly elaborate attacking plays, while Celje put up a spirited fight.
Consequently, Aalborg’s lead hovered consistently between four and five goals, ensuring the win was never in any real danger.
