Just one second before the final whistle, Kiel’s Hendrik Pekeler secured a point for the visitors. Last season, THW won all three encounters against Magdeburg, and this time managed at least a draw. Magdeburg had celebrated 29 wins in their previous 30 Bundesliga matches, dropping points only in the draw at Erlangen on 20 September.
Thrilling Battle in Magdeburg
In front of 6,600 fans, the game offered end-to-end action from the start. Even after Magdeburg took a 20-16 lead, THW fought back and went ahead 25-24. The home side responded, but Pekeler had the final say. The last time they failed to win a competitive match was their defeat to HC Veszprem at the Club World Championship on 30 September.
Before the match, Magdeburg announced the contract extension of Swedish international Daniel Pettersson for another year. The 33-year-old has been playing for Magdeburg since the 2016/2017 season.
