Michael van Gerwen is unable to take part in Night 3 of the Premier League Darts due to health reasons. The PDC and 'Mighty Mike' announced this on Thursday morning.

Van Gerwen, who currently tops the table with two final appearances and one nightly win, will have his scheduled quarterfinal against world champion Luke Littler recorded as a 0-6 loss.

"Sorry Glasgow," the Dutchman wrote on his social media: "Unfortunately, I had to withdraw from the Premier League tonight. Thank you for your support."

This means the Dutchman will not collect any more points, and his leg difference drops by six. Littler is guaranteed two points and will enter the competition in the semifinals, where he will face either Jonny Clayton or Gerwyn Price.

As early as Tuesday, doubts had arisen about van Gerwen's participation in Glasgow. Former player and close friend of van Gerwen, Vincent van der Voort, said on his podcast 'Darts Draait Door' that van Gerwen "had caught something and is on antibiotics."

At the time of recording, "tests" were still pending to determine whether the seven-time Premier League champion would be able to play.
