The Houston Rockets acquired guard Jaden Springer (22) and a 2030 second-round pick from the Boston Celtics ahead of the trade deadline on Thursday.

Each team will also exchange protected second-round picks as part of the deal as well.

Springer has been playing a reserve role for the Celtics this season, averaging just 1.7 points in 5.4 minutes per game. Despite only playing in 26 games this year, Springer was part of the championship Celtics team last season after being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers

The four-year veteran was drafted by Philly with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Since then, the guard has yet to average over five points per game in his career.

But with the Rockets looking to make a serious title contention push out of the Western Conference, Springer might finally be able to see better playing time and will provide the team with stellar perimeter defence.

Houston is currently third in the West with a 32-18 record, sitting eight games behind the first-place Oklahoma City Thunder
