Liverpool v Everton (20/09/2025)

Another dramatic victory in Europe in midweek saw Liverpool continue their winning start to the season, so they carry plenty of momentum into the latest Merseyside derby against Everton.

Match News and Current Form

Liverpool remained unscathed in defence of their Premier League crown after a stoppage-time winner saw them sneak past Burnley 1-0 last weekend, before a 92nd-minute header from Virgil van Dijk earned the Reds a 3-2 win over Atlético Madrid in midweek. Arne Slot’s men gave up a two-goal lead on Wednesday, and though they’ve won each of their five matches this term, performances have left something to be desired, which is ominous for their title rivals. Liverpool are looking to win their opening five Premier League matches for just the third time, and as they’ve lost just two of their last 52 home top-flight matches (W40, D10), confidence will be high on the Kop.

Everton make the short trip across town in good form themselves, having won three successive matches before drawing 0-0 with Aston Villa last time out. It’s the Toffees’ best points tally at this stage since 2021/22, and while this particular trip is more important than any other, David Moyes’ men have made for confident travellers having won six of their last 11 away league games (D2, L3). That’s as many as in their previous 30 such fixtures combined, and sets the stage for Everton to win seven Premier League road games in a calendar year for the first time since 2021, which is also the year they last won at Anfield.

Head-to-Head History

Liverpool have made this a one-sided derby in recent years, losing just two of the last 29 Premier League H2Hs (W13, D14), while they’ve been beaten in just one of their last 28 in all competitions on home turf (W17, D10).

Key Players to Watch and Missing Players

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is a stalwart of this derby having kept seven clean sheets in 11 appearances against Everton, including four in five home games. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall breached his defences on this ground back in 2022 while at Leicester (L 2-1), but has since won 15 of the last 16 matches he’s scored in (L1).

Liverpool appear to have no new injuries, while Everton look to be without key defenders Vitali Mykolenko and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Betting Analysis

Coupling Liverpool’s momentum with the fact they’ve beaten Everton without conceding in the last four H2Hs at Anfield, backing Liverpool to win without conceding seems a smart play.
